CHICLAYO, PERU — The Lambayeque region is preparing to solidify its position as a major hub for international religious tourism during the upcoming apostolic visit of Pope Leo XIV. Regional authorities project the arrival of approximately 1.5 million visitors, including national and international pilgrims, generating an estimated economic impact of $200 million, according to Félix Mio Sánchez, Regional Manager of Exterior Trade and Tourism of Lambayeque.
This influx of travelers is expected to directly boost local hospitality, gastronomy, transportation, travel agencies, and retail sectors, firmly placing the “Pope Leo XIV Route” on the global map of pilgrimage destinations.

“Tradición Viva” Craft Fair, Papal Stole Replica, and Cultural Events in Pimentel
As part of local preparations and economic development efforts, the Regional Government of Lambayeque, the Provincial Municipality of Chiclayo, and the Catholic Church have coordinated an extensive cultural and logistical schedule:
- “Tradición Viva” Craft Fair: Inaugurated on the Banco de la Nación esplanade, this event showcases the work of local artisans. Highlights include a handcrafted replica of the ceremonial stole that will be presented as a gift to the Holy Father.
- Pimentel Esplanade Facilities: Dedicated areas for local artisans and regional gastronomy are being set up on the plains of Pimentel, the official site for the Papal Mass.
- Cultural Program and Broadcast Hubs: Starting November 11, around 50 cultural performances will take place—featuring the Chiclayo Symphony Orchestra, church choirs, local artists, and traditional school band performances—alongside 10 closed-circuit screens installed in strategic public locations.
