CUSCO, PERU — During a working meeting between the Ministry of Exterior Trade and Tourism (Mincetur), the Ministry of Culture, and leading regional tourism associations—such as the Cusco Chamber of Tourism (Cartuc) and the Cusco Association of Tourism Agencies (AATC)—authorities announced major operational reforms to streamline ticket reservations for the llaqta of Machu Picchu.

Among the main approved measures is the ability to purchase entry tickets 10 to 12 months in advance, allowing travel operators and international visitors to plan their journeys a full year ahead. Additionally, officials confirmed the integration of two new payment methods into the official ticketing platform.

The updates aim to modernize visitor flow management, eliminate purchasing bottlenecks, and upgrade service infrastructure across the historical sanctuary:

  • New Payment Gateways: Tickets can now be purchased via the Págalo.pe platform (Banco de la Nación) with an operational fee of S/ 2.50 per transaction, as well as through direct bank account deposits with a 1% commission fee.

  • Two New Entry Routes to the Llaqta: Authorities announced the opening of two additional access routes into Machu Picchu, located at Kilometer 113 (via the eastern terraces) and Kilometer 119, with the goal of having both fully operational before the start of the next high season.

  • Healthcare Infrastructure and UGM: Joint efforts between the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Culture were reactivated to clear the way for a specialized medical center in Machu Picchu Pueblo. The Machu Picchu Management Unit (UGM) was also convened to strengthen site governance.

  • Macro-Regional Investments: Officials reaffirmed five-year intervention plans across other major Peruvian destinations, including Choquequirao, Colca Canyon, Kuélap, and the Northern Beach Circuit.
